There are millions of blog now all over the internet. I’ve seen a ton of “make money online” blogs, and many of them well worth reading. My favorite being John Chow dot Com, but that’s beside the point.
The question is, how many of these make money online bloggers actually blog for fun, or blog about something they enjoy (their passion)? So do you blog for fun or blog for money? I know that many bloggers start up a blog simply just to make money from it, and that’s entirely the wrong approach.
As I’ve stated before, most people who go that route, fail miserably. The best approach is to start a blog for fun, and then monetize it later down the road as you go a long (and little by little). It’s not good to throw up a blog immediately that is littered with ugly ads.
If you must start out a blog with ads on it, keep it minimal. Blogging is about fun…if you blog about what you love and you’re passionate about, you will be able to more easily monetize it then, and you will be driven to write lots of new content, maybe even on a daily basis, and more content = more money.
I started Whitney’s Random Ideas completely because I just thought blogging looked “cool” and I wanted to jump on the bandwagon (and I did while it was in the early stages thankfully!)
If you look at your blog only as a job, and you’re not enjoying posting to it, then you will be demotivated and you will not post very often, and then your blog will die. It’s super important to be clear about your blog’s purpose when you first start it up.
So I’d love to hear your input, do you blog for fun or for money, or both
